The new CBS comedy, Poppa’s House, starring Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr., is altering its focus to enhance its family-centric narrative.

Damon Wayans portrays a legendary talk radio host in the series, which is set to premiere on October 21 at 8:30 pm. Originally centered in a radio station, the show will now depict the character transitioning to podcasting from home. This adjustment aims to make the comedy more home-focused and family-oriented.

During the TCA press tour, Showrunner Dean Lorey explained, “We’re making a couple of shifts in the show. We created Poppa’s House to explore more of Poppa’s home life. This season, Poppa will shift from the radio station to doing a podcast at home, which will enable the show to bring the family’s daily life into more focus and keep the characters together more often.”

Poppa’s professional life faces challenges with the arrival of new female co-host Ivy, played by Essence Atkins. Meanwhile, at home, Poppa continues to navigate parenting his adult son, Junior. Damon Wayans Jr. plays Junior, a brilliant, imaginative individual striving to balance his dreams with his responsibilities as a father and husband.

Lorey added, “We’re making a classic family sitcom, but our unique twist is incorporating an actual family. We’ve got Damon Wayans Sr. and Damon Wayans Jr., and behind the scenes, many members of the Wayans family are involved. The writing staff includes Kim Wayans, Shawn Wayans, and Michael Wayans. It’s a fun, family-centered atmosphere and family is key to the show’s essence.”

Lorey, alongside Kevin Hench, Damon Wayans, and Damon Wayans Jr., serves as an executive producer for the show. It is produced by CBS Studios. Andy Ackerman directed and executive produced the pilot, while Kameron Tarlow from Wayans Jr.’s Two Shakes Entertainment oversees the project as a producer.
