David ‘Big Papi’ Ortiz Lauds Raising Cane’s ‘Dynasty’ at Boston Restaurant Opening

Red Sox hall of famer David Ortiz, also known as “Big Papi,” joined a group of celebrities and a large number of Bostonians on Wednesday for the grand opening of the new Raising Cane’s restaurant in downtown Boston. This event marked a significant milestone for Raising Cane’s, which celebrated its 28th anniversary and the opening of its 828th location on August 28. Ortiz highlighted that Boston had plenty of reasons to celebrate this new addition to the city.

Raising Cane’s, which first opened its doors on August 28, made a big deal out of its 28th year in business. In a press release, the company explained the significance of a “golden birthday,” where the date matches the age being celebrated. To commemorate this occasion, the 828th location was adorned in gold from top to bottom, sparing no detail except for the menu. CEO Todd Graves invited Boston sports legends Ortiz and Jrue Holiday, along with Nashville singer-songwriter JVKE, for the special event.

All four celebrities participated in a press conference before the ribbon-cutting ceremony, where they answered questions about the restaurant, their personal achievements, and more. When asked by Stephen Andrew from PopCulture.com about what would make this all-gold location special for Boston, Ortiz emphasized the “history behind it.”

“For me, I’m the type of guy that – I believe in process,” Ortiz explained. “Anything with a process goes way back. Raising Cane’s [has] been getting it done for 28 years. Opening another place, like my man said, the reason why people keep going – keep on choosing Raising Cane’s – is because of what they have done together throughout the years. Throughout time. It’s a dynasty.”

Ortiz acknowledged that hard work is often a grind but insisted the payoff is worth it. “Look at this place – this is what you get,” he said, gesturing to the gold furnishings, which elicited a laugh from everyone in the room.

Raising Cane’s made a special effort to honor Boston with this opening while also recognizing its roots in Nashville and Graves’ hometown of Louisiana. Ortiz, a local legend, has an impressive array of gold trophies. Holiday, who recently brought home an Olympic gold medal and an NBA Championship with the Boston Celtics, was also present. JVKE performed his new single “Golden Hour” just before the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Additionally, Raising Cane’s is committing to giving back $28 million to the communities it serves as a part of its birthday celebration. Bostonians gathered early in the morning for the opening, enjoying a series of performances, speeches, and giveaways as the restaurant began its business. Raising Cane’s is located at 101 Arch Street in downtown Boston and is now open to the public.
