Democrats Emerged Victorious in New York Special Election, Closing Gap in House Republican Majority

Democrats won a special election in western New York, further reducing the GOP’s majority in the House. Democratic Sen. Tim Kennedy defeated Republican Gary Dickson and will now hold the seat previously held by Rep. Brian Higgins. Kennedy emphasized the need for honor and civility in Congress. He is favored to win a full term in November. Kennedy supports protecting social security, Medicare, and abortion rights. He also advocates for protecting civilians in Israel’s conflict with Hamas. The race for a full term may involve other candidates, such as Nate McMurray, subject to a decision on ballot access.
