Deon Derrico Addresses and Clarifies Divorce Rumors

Doubling Down With the Derricos stars Deon Derrico and Karen have finalized their divorce, surprising many TLC fans. This news has reignited old rumors and sparked new ones. Recently, Deon, his mom Marian “GG” Derrico, and Eric Jefferson took to social media to address these speculations.

Last year, there was a rumor about Eric Jefferson and Deon Derrico being lovers, which resurfaced following the divorce announcement. Both Deon and his mother were quick to deny any such relationship, emphasizing their familial bond.

Concerns also emerged regarding the financial aspects of the divorce. Fans remembered Karen Derrico’s bankruptcy from seven years ago and speculated she might struggle with her financial settlement. There were even theories suggesting the divorce was a strategy to evade taxes or welfare obligations—essentially, a sham divorce. Deon dismissed these rumors too.

In a recent online post, Deon expressed his frustration over the public’s quickness to judge based on what they see on television. He stated, “I take offense when someone inboxes me their ideology from a perspective that’s limited to 47 minutes from a television show of our lives—and make up this narrative that everyone has seemed to run with, and it derives at nothing.”

Deon clarified that he and Eric have a father-son relationship and nothing more. His mother GG added, “When I look and see these comments about my son and my grandson here, it really hurts my heart.” She assured viewers that what they see on the show is an accurate depiction of their lives.

Addressing financial concerns, Deon explained the child support and payment arrangements. He clarified, “Karen pays the medical insurance. Because she pays the medical insurance, which is about $2,000 a month, the legal fair equity of it is that I pay her half of the money she’s paying for healthcare. But let me be very clear: I cover every bill in both of our houses because we now live in separate houses. Yes, we do, and I cover bills at both houses. I say that not as bragging. I’m proud to be in the position to do it.”

Despite the divorce, they confirmed that filming for TLC is still ongoing.
