Deryck Whibley of Sum 41 Talks Linkin Park Reunion Rumors

Sum 41’s Deryck Whibley has addressed and dismissed rumors that he would be joining Linkin Park or Oasis. The speculation began when Sum 41’s social media teased a “Deryck Whibley announcement” for Wednesday morning, coinciding with an anticipated announcement from Linkin Park.

In his social media post, Whibley stated, “I feel the need to dispel some current rumors. It has been brought to my attention that many people think I could be joining a reuniting band. But I just want to say, despite popular belief, I am not joining Oasis … or Linkin Park. Or any other band for that matter.”

Whibley explained that his own announcement concerns a tour and book, which he has now pushed to the end of the week ahead of Sum 41’s U.S. tour. He expressed his anticipation for the future endeavors of both Linkin Park and Oasis.

Oasis has already confirmed plans to reunite for a tour in 2025, but details about Linkin Park’s announcement remain a mystery. Four of Linkin Park’s five living members shared a countdown clock on social media, leaving fans speculating about a reunion, possibly involving festival appearances. Drummer Rob Bourdon’s absence from social media has kept his participation unclear.

Fans believe that a potential Linkin Park reunion would require a singer to perform alongside Mike Shinoda, following Chester Bennington’s death in 2017. Earlier in the year, there were rumors of a female vocalist joining them, with speculations pointing to Evanescence’s Amy Lee, who later denied the claims.

Only time will reveal what Linkin Park has planned, but Whibley’s clarification provides some insight into what is not happening.
