Director of ‘Fast & Furious’ Advances Live-Action ‘One-Punch Man’ Movie

In June 2022, we reported that Justin Lin, known for his work on the ‘Fast & Furious’ saga, had been selected by Sony Pictures to direct a live-action adaptation of the manga ‘One-Punch Man’. Now, it has been confirmed that the project is moving forward with a script rewrite by Heather Anne Campbell and Dan Harmon, the co-creator of ‘Rick & Morty’.

The Hollywood Reporter has verified that the live-action adaptation of ‘One-Punch Man’ is still in progress, and the script is being reworked by Dan Harmon and Heather Anne Campbell. Harmon, known for his work on ‘Rick & Morty’, is collaborating with Campbell, an actress, comedian, and screenwriter who has worked on projects like ‘Saturday Night Live’ and ‘Rick & Morty’.

The original script was penned by Justin Lin, Scott Rosenberg, and Jeff Pinkner, but Sony Pictures and Avi Arad have decided to bring in new writers for the project. This suggests that the initial script may not have met their expectations.

At present, there are no further details available about the film, including casting or release dates. However, it is known that the production of the movie is still ongoing with new scriptwriters involved.

‘One-Punch Man’ originated as a webcomic in 2009 created by the pseudonymous author One. The story follows Saitama, the most powerful superhero in the world, capable of defeating any opponent with a single punch. The manga, illustrated by Yusuke Murata, and subsequently the anime adaptation, gained immense popularity.

Originally conceived as a way to improve drawing skills, ‘One-Punch Man’ evolved into a serialized manga due to its widespread acclaim. The protagonist, Saitama, explores the consequences of being the strongest in the world, leading to a satirical take on mundane challenges in his life.

This adaptation of ‘One-Punch Man’ directed by Justin Lin is highly anticipated, especially with the addition of new scriptwriters like Dan Harmon and Heather Anne Campbell. Fans are eager to see how the iconic manga will be brought to life in a live-action format.
