Napoleon: The Director’s Cut is officially available on Apple TV+, bringing with it almost an hour of brand new, never-before-seen footage from Ridley Scott’s historical epic.

In a new post on social media, Ridley Scott announced the extended cut of the film is available to stream now. This version of the film includes 48 minutes of new footage, offering a deeper look into Napoleon’s fall from grace and an entirely new battle scene, the Battle of Marengo.

Originally released in 2023, Napoleon garnered mixed reviews upon its launch, grossing just over $220 million at the box office. The film was nominated for three Academy Awards, including Best Production Design, Best Costume Design, and Best Visual Effects.

“Napoleon is a spectacle-filled action epic that details the checkered rise and fall of the iconic French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte,” reads the synopsis. “Against a stunning backdrop of large-scale filmmaking orchestrated by legendary director Ridley Scott, the film captures Bonaparte’s relentless journey to power through the prism of his addictive, volatile relationship with his one true love, Josephine, showcasing his visionary military and political tactics against some of the most dynamic practical battle sequences ever filmed.”

Ridley Scott directed the film from a screenplay written by David Scarpa. The film also marked Joaquin Phoenix and Scott’s latest collaboration together after previously working together in the acclaimed 2000 epic drama Gladiator. Alongside Phoenix, Napoleon also stars Vanessa Kirby, Tahar Rahim, Ben Miles, Ludivine Sagnier, Matthew Needham, Youssef Kerkour, Phil Cornwell, and more.
