“Documentary ‘Operation Hope’ Explores Plight of Lost Children in the Amazon” – Breaking News

The documentary about the events that occurred on May 1, 2023 in the Guaviare jungle will premiere on the Amazon prime platform on April 26. Four minors, between one and 13 years old, were lost in the Amazon after the small plane they were traveling in crashed. They were found alive on June 9 after spending 40 days alone in the jungle. The documentary showcases the rescue operation involving the Army and indigenous guard. It includes testimonies from those involved, like General Pedro Sánchez and indigenous leader Dairo Mucutuy, and stories from the children themselves.

The documentary is narrated by Colombian singer Gloria “Goyo” Emilse Martínez. The children, Lesly Mucutuy, 13 years old; Soleiny Mucutuy, 9; Tien Noriel Ranoque Mucutuy, who turned 5 in the jungle; and baby Cristin Neriman Ranoque Mucutuy, who also turned one year old, were accompanied by three adults who died in the crash, including their mother.

The search operations involved over 100 Colombian special forces soldiers and more than 70 indigenous people in one of the most remote and inhospitable areas in Colombia. The journalist Daniel Coronell explored the mysteries surrounding the tragedy in the book ‘The Children of the Amazon’, which included theories about the children being trapped by a goblin or an older indigenous person under the influence of yagé (ayahuasca).
