Donald, He Isn’t Coming Back

Jon Stewart recently weighed in on Donald Trump’s reaction to President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race, suggesting that the former president seems somewhat distressed about the situation.

On a recent episode of The Daily Show, Stewart humorously critiqued Trump’s nostalgia for his past confrontations with Biden. Referring to previous comments made by Trump, Stewart said, “A month ago, he was basically already the f***ing president. He had cheated death, started an ear accessory trend,” referencing the bandage Trump wore after the assassination attempt he survived in July.

Stewart continued with a lighthearted jab, expressing that Trump “had it all in the bag! And it was taken away.” It seems that Trump has become increasingly preoccupied with the idea that Biden may reconsider his decision, indicating a reluctance to acknowledge that Vice President Kamala Harris is now his primary opponent.

In a recent post on Truth Social, Trump speculated whether Biden “feels that he made a historically tragic mistake by handing over the U.S. Presidency, a COUP, to the people in the World he most hates, and he wants it back, NOW!!!” Such comments express Trump’s frustration with the political landscape and reflect his desire for things to revert to the way they were.

During a rally in Montana, Trump told his supporters that he suspected Biden would make a dramatic return at the Democratic Convention, envisioning a scene where Biden would declare, “I want my presidency back. I want another chance to debate Trump.” After showcasing a clip from the rally, Stewart directly addressed Trump through the camera, firmly stating, “He’s not coming back, Donald!”

Stewart went on to express doubts about Trump’s ability to engage with Kamala Harris, suggesting that the former president has been so consumed by his long-standing feud with Biden that he might struggle to shift his focus to a new contender. “I hate to say it, I don’t think Trump has it in him to go after Kamala Harris,” Stewart remarked. “He’s been fighting Joe Biden for six years; it’s all he knows. He misses the fight so much.”

Further highlighting Trump’s lingering obsession with Biden, Stewart shared a clip of Trump polling the rally crowd on their preference between the nicknames “Crooked Joe” or “Sleepy Joe.” This moment drew a poignant observation from Stewart, who likened it to “an old man talking to an empty spot on the bench — and then you realize that’s where his wife used to sit.” He noted, “He would give everything for just one more moment with Crooked Joe.”

Stewart empathized with Trump’s longing for the familiar rivalry, stating, “I get it. You wanted to run against Joe Biden. Just two old dudes going toe to toe fungus.” He added a humorous twist, lamenting that Trump would now have to contend with “someone who appears…healthy!” in the form of Kamala Harris.

In a playful suggestion, Stewart encouraged Trump to gather his supporters and “storm the convention” when Harris is expected to accept the Democratic nomination next Thursday in Chicago. This notion captures a mix of humor and political satire, revealing Stewart’s critique of Trump’s predicament while engaging in a light-hearted commentary on the current state of affairs in the political arena.

Stewart’s blend of humor and insight has once again brought attention to the unique dynamics of the political landscape, emphasizing the challenges that arise when familiar rivalries shift and new challengers step into the ring.
