Donald Trump faces $9,000 fine for breaking gag order in hush money case

New York Judge Juan Merchan fined former President Donald Trump $9,000 for violating a gag order in the hush money trial by criticizing trial witnesses on social media. Merchan warned of possible incarceration if Trump continues to violate the gag order. Trump removed the offending posts as ordered but argued that reposts are not violations. The judge disagreed, stating that reposts are endorsements. Prosecutors cited 10 social media posts as violations, including comments about Michael Cohen and Stormy Daniels. Merchan scheduled another hearing for additional comments made by Trump. $1,000 per violation is the maximum fine allowed under New York State law. This is the first sanction against Trump for violating the gag order.
