Drew Barrymore to Maintain Physical Distance With Guests Post-Renewal

Drew Barrymore has expressed her desire to give her guests more personal space as her daytime talk show gears up for its upcoming season.

The announcement comes as The Drew Barrymore Show has been renewed for its sixth season, which is set to return on September 9. In a recent conversation with Entertainment Tonight, Barrymore shared insights into why she often finds herself getting physically close to her guests.

“Well, I’ll try to practice physical distance, which is not my strong point,” Barrymore admitted. “Do you know how hard the pandemic was for me? I was alone in a studio by myself! I like to be around people!”

The former Charlie’s Angels star acknowledged that her tendency to get close might not be everyone’s favorite part of her interviews. “I’m sorry to those people,” she said, emphasizing that she aims to bring “joy and laughter” to her guests and viewers.

“I think that, first of all, we’re always gonna be big on joy and laughter and feeling good, and that was something I always wanted to do,” Barrymore explained. “But I never thought we would launch in a pandemic, and trying to lean into the joy and the feel-good and the comedy at that time was real weird and wacky.”

The show’s renewal will extend through the 2025-26 season, according to Wendy McMahon, president and CEO of CBS News and Stations and CBS Media Ventures.

“Drew is a one-of-a-kind talent who is an integral part of the CBS and Paramount family,” McMahon stated. “This early renewal and upgrades are a testament to our commitment to The Drew Barrymore Show and its loyal audience, who tune in every day to see Drew’s warmth, inquisitiveness, and spontaneity.”
