“Ella Langley & Riley Green Discuss Inspiration Behind ‘You Look Like You Love Me’”

Riley Green and Ella Langley are taking you behind the scenes of their “You Look Like You Love Me” music video. The two country stars recently released a Wild West-inspired video for their hit duet.

Langley had initially captivated fans with a teaser of the single using a talking style, and when the studio cut featuring Riley Green was unveiled, it was an instant fan favorite. The song narrates a modern-day love story, set in a bar, with a playful twist on the usual barroom encounter.

Langley, who co-directed the video, explained in an exclusive interview with Entertainment Tonight that the idea for a Western-themed video came to her almost immediately. “The music video is based as an old Western. We just kind of envisioned that while we were writing the song, having an old saloon, bar-type thing,” Langley said. “I grew up watching old Westerns, and it kind of plays to the talking in the verses, old country songs. Pay a little homage to what we grew up on.”

Green humorously responded to Langley’s explanation with, “I didn’t even know it was a Western-themed video; this is just what I wore,” as he appeared fully dressed in cowboy apparel. Fans took to social media after the video’s release, expressing their hopes that Green might make an acting crossover, given how well he fit the Western look. “Yellowstone, if you’re hiring, Riley Green might be your man,” they jested.

Langley also shared why she chose Riley Green, a fellow Alabama native, to feature on the single. “I think Riley was the perfect person because we both grew up on the same kind of music. When I think of the talking in the song, I think of ‘You Never Even Call Me By My Name,’ the talking in the back half of that song. And I think that’s kind of what you (Riley) think of too. You know…bringing some Alabama out to shine in the world.”

Green concurred with Langley, adding that the song reminded him of older country artists like Chris LeDoux. He expressed his excitement for a song so rooted in traditional country music to achieve such success. The duo also admitted that they weren’t initially sure if the song would ever be released. However, because they were touring together, the song had its moment. Green revealed he urged Langley to perform it with him one night on stage, marking the beginning of the song’s journey.

“It definitely wasn’t a planned thing, but Ella being out on tour with me was such a great thing and probably why this song happened. So, it’s always cool when things are really organic, and people that you’re just a fan of musically can work together. Sometimes stuff like this happens, and it really works.”

The impromptu performance on stage ultimately led to the creation of this song, which has turned out to be highly catchy. The visual portrayal of the song adds a cinematic flair to the lyrical tale. It’s likely that “You Look Like You Love Me” will remain memorable for years to come.
