Elon Musk Acknowledges ‘Mistakes’ in Trump Spaces Chat by X

After facing significant issues during a live chat with Donald Trump on X, Elon Musk initially attributed the technical difficulties to a potential attack orchestrated by “Democrats.” However, he later acknowledged that the glitches stemmed from problems on X’s end.

Musk stated, “Given the prominence of this conversation, there was of course a 100% probability of DDOS attacks. We also had some unforced errors ourselves.” Although he did not go into detail about these errors, he praised the X team for their efforts in combating the issues and resolving them. “But good work by the X team fending off the attacks and fixing our mistakes! All’s well that ends well,” he added.

Despite Musk’s comments, a report from The Verge on Monday indicated that no distributed denial-of-service attack took place. Nevertheless, Musk did not completely dismiss the idea of such an attack occurring.

The live chat was delayed by approximately 40 minutes, drawing parallels to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ troubled presidential announcement last May, which Trump had previously ridiculed. This time, it was Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign that managed to turn the tables on Trump by leveraging his own past statements against him.

Trump subsequently shared the full two-hour conversation on his X account. During the chat, he made controversial remarks, including minimizing the dangers of global warming by suggesting that it would lead to “more oceanfront property.”

On the same day, Musk defended the platform against numerous unfavorable headlines, which he described as “so predictable.” He shared a screenshot of various articles discussing the Spaces chat, stating, “All this does is drive even more people to listen to the conversation themselves and realize how much the legacy media lies to them!”

Insights from the chat revealed that the audience was predominantly young men. Linda Taccarino, CEO of X, noted on the platform that the viewers were “young, curious, engaged and tuning into X for a new kind of political conversation.”

During the discussion, Lara Trump, the former president’s daughter-in-law and RNC co-chair, appeared to echo Musk’s sentiments regarding the technical difficulties. She expressed her belief that there is a vast effort to keep her father-in-law out of the presidency.

Lara Trump claimed on Sean Hannity’s Fox News program, “There are a lot of people out there, and there’s a massive effort, of course, to keep Donald Trump out of the White House,” although she did not provide specifics to substantiate her assertions. She painted a picture of a “deep state” and a “swamp in Washington, D.C.,” suggesting these forces are adversaries who fear Trump’s potential return to power.

Her comments underscored the ongoing political tensions surrounding Trump’s bid for the presidency and the portrayal of the media’s role in shaping public perception.

The fallout from the live chat has ignited further discussions regarding media integrity and the influence of digital platforms in political discourse. As stakeholders analyze the implications of X’s role in current political conversations, Musk’s leadership and decision-making continue to draw scrutiny amid a rapidly evolving media landscape.

In a time when social media has become a powerful tool for communication, the challenges faced by platforms like X reflect broader issues within the intersection of technology and politics. With both support and criticism flowing in the wake of the chat, it remains to be seen how these dynamics will shape future exchanges on the platform.

As the political climate continues to shift, X is likely to play a significant role in how influential conversations are being navigated in the digital space.
