Evacuation of area near New Mexico state line ordered after multiple train cars derail, several carrying propane

Thirty-five rail cars of a train derailed in New Mexico, causing evacuations and closing a 50-mile stretch of Interstate 40. McKinley County Fire & Rescue responded to the incident where six derailed cars carried propane. Evacuation orders were issued within a two-mile radius, with Interstate 40 closed in both directions. The National Transportation Safety Board is set to investigate the scene. BNSF is conducting air monitoring and providing support to residents affected. Both Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg and Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs expressed concern over the derailment and pledged support to ensure safety in the region.
