Ewan Mitchell’s House of the Dragon Nude Scene Faced an Awkward Issue

Perhaps the cold actually helped Ewan Mitchell deliver his best performance during his significant nude scene in “House of the Dragon.” In that vulnerable moment, Aemond finds himself dealing with Aegon, who ruins a place that once brought him comfort. Despite the discomfort, Aemond has to show that it doesn’t bother him by walking naked through the area. This act is emblematic of the difficult times Aegon has imposed on Aemond throughout their lives, and it’s clear why Aemond attempts to kill Aegon in the subsequent episode during the Battle of Rook’s Rest, as they clash atop their dragons.

This intense conflict at Rook’s Rest is the culmination of years of emotional torment endured by Aemond. By Season 2, Episode 5 — “Regents” — Aemond finds himself in a rather favorable position, at least for the moment. With Aegon alive but in recovery, Aemond takes on the role of Prince Regent and Protector of the Realm, assuming responsibility for overseeing the ongoing war between the Greens and the Blacks.

The debate remains open as to whether Aemond intended to actually harm Aegon, but it’s undeniable that Aegon’s health struggles work to Aemond’s advantage in the short term. As Mitchell elaborated in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, “It was no secret that Aemond felt Aegon was inferior to him. He believed Aegon lacked the perseverance needed to be a leader.”

Witnessing Aemond’s journey is fascinating, as he transitions from an exceptionally low point — being naked in front of many — to effectively becoming the de facto king. Even if Aegon technically retains the title for now, Aemond’s rise is remarkable. For hardcore “House of the Dragon” fans, there are many intricacies to Aemond’s character that hint he may become even more ruthless in future episodes.
