Experts predict that SCOTUS is likely to rule in favor of granting presidents ‘some amount’ of immunity in Trump v US case

The Supreme Court is set to consider whether former President Trump can claim immunity against criminal charges brought by the Biden Justice Department. Special Counsel Jack Smith brought charges against Trump for his alleged connection to the Capitol riot and attempts to overturn the 2020 election. Legal experts believe the justices are likely to provide guidance on presidential immunity from criminal prosecution. If the case is remanded to a lower court, a trial before the 2024 election would be unlikely. Former President Trump’s legal team argues for absolute immunity, while critics suggest any immunity granted may not cover his alleged acts. The Supreme Court will hear the case on Thursday.
