Exploring Mike Johnson and the tumultuous past of GOP speakers: NPR

When the House returns from its recess, Speaker Mike Johnson is expected to resume his duties without facing an immediate ousting motion as planned by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene in March. This motion was in response to Johnson’s strategy to pass aid for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan. However, Greene has not made the motion “privileged” yet. Democratic leaders are open to supporting Johnson, signaling bipartisan support. History shows the turbulent reigns of previous Republican speakers, including Gingrich, Hastert, Boehner, and Ryan. Johnson must be cautious as Greene’s motion remains a warning of potential upheaval. Pelosi, a Democrat, has significantly longer tenures as speaker.
