Explosives used to free ship trapped under bridge wreckage, crew to remain on board

Unified Command is planning to use explosives to free the Dali container ship from the wreckage of the Francis Scott Key Bridge. The crew will shelter in place on board during the detonation, which is aimed at separating a large portion of the bridge’s truss that’s pinning the ship. The explosives will be placed in a controlled manner, similar to a previous demolition on the Harry W. Nice Bridge. Safety measures are being considered, such as the crew staying on board during the detonation, with a press release to be sent out 48 hours prior to the planned demolition.
