Fairbanks, Alaska: Douglas C-54 aircraft goes down near river

A Douglas C-54 aircraft carrying fuel crashed into a frozen river shortly after takeoff in Fairbanks, Alaska. The National Transportation Safety Board reported that two people were on board the plane. The Alaska State Troopers and various government agencies responded to the crash site on the Tanana River. Preliminary information indicated that the aircraft caught fire after hitting a hill on the riverbank. Sadly, no survivors have been found. The NTSB is investigating the crash and recovering the plane. Fairbanks International Airport is assisting with the investigation.
