The family of two children killed in a crash by a suspected drunk driver at a birthday party in Monroe County is suing the driver and a nearby tavern. The driver, Marshella Chidester, faces criminal charges for the crash that killed 8-year-old Alanah Phillips and 5-year-old Zayn Phillips, injuring many others. The lawsuit alleges Chidester was negligent and operated her vehicle recklessly while intoxicated. The lawsuit also targets the tavern for selling alcohol to Chidester while visibly intoxicated. The specific state of mind of Chidester at the time of the crash is still being debated. Dodds, the mother of the children, is seeking damages.
