Fire at Oceanside Pier fills the sky with smoke over northern San Diego

Crews are currently fighting a fire that started on the Oceanside Pier in a vacant restaurant, previously Ruby’s Diner. The fire also spread to Brine Box, another nearby restaurant. A large smoke plume was visible from far distances, with residents as far as Vista reporting seeing it. Aerial footage showed boats and a helicopter responding to the blaze. The cause of the fire is still unknown. Ruby’s Diner closed in February 2021 after 25 years. Authorities are urging people to stay away from the area as the situation unfolds.
