Firefighters respond to flames engulfing Oceanside pier.

Firefighters successfully contained a large fire at the Oceanside pier in California. The fire broke out at 3 p.m. and was promptly responded to. Crews are working to fully extinguish the fire throughout the night. It is unknown if there were any injuries. Citizens are urged to stay away from the area. Employees at a nearby restaurant safely evacuated. The historic pier, built in 1887 and rebuilt multiple times, is among the longest wooden piers on the West Coast. Past storms have damaged the iconic structure, including a 1982 incident that created an odd-looking island.
