First look at Taylor Sheridan’s new Texas drama for Paramount+

Taylor Sheridan, renowned for his prolific contributions to modern television, continues his successful formula with another gripping series debuting on November 17 on Paramount+. The upcoming 10-episode drama, “Landman,” stars Billy Bob Thornton and delves into the complexities of the Texas oil boom through vivid, upstairs/downstairs storytelling. The series promises a rich tapestry of characters, ranging from roughnecks to wildcat billionaires.

“Landman” is adapted from the podcast “Boomtown” by Imperative Entertainment and Texas Monthly. The podcast explores the modern-day gold rush that is transforming nearly every facet of life in Texas. From executives brokering billion-dollar deals to scrappy startups striving for a foothold in the industry, the series captures the multifaceted and often perilous lives of those entwined in the oil business. This includes pipeline workers risking their lives, exotic dancers chasing financial opportunities, and the overarching influence of Big Oil on climate, economy, and geopolitics.

Thornton is joined by a robust cast, many of whom are familiar faces from Sheridan’s previous Paramount+ projects. The talented ensemble includes Ali Larter, known for her role in “The Last Victim,” Michelle Randolph from “1923,” and Jacob Lofland from “Joker 2.” Additionally, Kayla Wallace, James Jordan from “Yellowstone,” Mark Collie from “Nashville,” Paulina Chávez from “The Expanding Universe of Ashley Garcia,” and Demi Moore, renowned for her role in “Feud: Capote Vs. The Swans,” are part of the dynamic cast.

The series will also feature notable guest stars such as Jon Hamm, best known for “Mad Men,” as well as Andy Garcia from the “Expendables” franchise and Michael Peña from “End of Watch.”

Sheridan’s body of work is characterized by ruggedly individualistic characters who navigate diverse facets of the American experience. His impressive array of shows includes “Yellowstone,” its prequels “1883” and “1923,” “Mayor of Kingstown,” “Tulsa King,” “Lawmen: Bass Reeves,” and “Special Ops: Lioness.” Each series examines different dimensions of contemporary and historical American life, from the private prison industry to frontier expansion and modern ranching.

“Landman” fits squarely into this thematic milieu, promising to deliver a compelling narrative that zeroes in on the drama and stakes of the Texas oil industry. Paramount+ has already released several first-look photos, heightening anticipation for this new series.
