First Look: Bruce Campbell in Peacock’s Horror Series “Hysteria!” Premiering Fall

As fall approaches, the anticipation for horror-themed content heightens with networks and streaming services gearing up for their seasonal line-up. Among the notable releases this year are two horror series on Peacock: the James Wan-produced “Teacup” and “Hysteria!” starring Julie Bowen, Anna Camp, and Bruce Campbell.

You can catch the first teaser for “Hysteria!” now. The series is set to debut on Friday, October 18, on Peacock, with USA Network airing new episodes on Fridays, and SYFY simulcasting the premiere.

“Hysteria!” comes from writers and executive producers Matthew Scott Kane (“Stitchers”) and David A. Goodman (“The Orville”). It is described as a series focusing on “generational fear” and the bittersweet experience of youthful rebellion, the aspiration to change the world, and the daunting reality of growing up. This backdrop is a key era in the late 1980s during the peak of the Satanic Panic.

The series aims to bridge the generational divide, reflecting on the struggles of keeping up with societal changes and pop culture, intertwined with the eerie ambiance of the late ’80s. The creators’ intention is to poke fun at the hurdles of growing up while exploring the dark and supernatural elements of that era.

The plot centers around a group of misfits in a metal band, who exploit the town’s hysteria over the mysterious disappearance of a star quarterback to build a reputation as a Satanic metal band. As more vanishings and supernatural events occur, the town’s suspicion turns into a witch hunt against the band, fearing they might indeed be involved in the occult.

The storyline bears a resemblance to the fourth season of “Stranger Things,” where the residents of Hawkins, Indiana, suspect Eddie Munson of being a Satan-worshiping serial killer. However, “Hysteria!” promises this narrative as a full-fledged series.

The series, consisting of eight hour-long episodes, features not only Camp, Bowen, and Campbell but also stars Emjay Anthony, Chiara Aurelia, Kezii Curtis, Nikki Hahn, Nolan North, Garret Dillahunt, Allison Scagliotti, among others.
