First Steps Towards Ted Lasso’s Fourth Season

“Ted Lasso” fans have reason to be excited. Two weeks after “Ted Lasso” co-creator Bill Lawrence hinted at the possibility of more episodes, reports have surfaced that Apple TV+ could bring the hit show back for a fourth season.

Warner Bros. Television, which produces the soccer-themed comedy, has reportedly renewed the contracts of three key cast members. According to sources from Deadline, Hannah Waddingham (Rebecca Walton), Brett Goldstein (Roy Kent), and Jeremy Swift (Leslie Higgins) are all set for a potential continuation of the series.

While this does not confirm a fourth season definitively, it clearly shows the intent to keep the show’s momentum going. The third season’s final episode aired in May 2023, leaving fans eagerly waiting for updates.

The three actors mentioned are members of Equity, the U.K.’s trade union for actors. The report further suggests that Warner Bros. Television will soon approach other “Ted Lasso” cast members whose SAG-AFTRA contracts have expired.

Earlier this month, Lawrence stated that the show’s return hinges primarily on Jason Sudeikis, who plays Ted Lasso. Sudeikis, along with Lawrence and Brendan Hunt (Coach Beard), co-created the series. Initially inspired by a character Sudeikis developed for a series of commercials, “Ted Lasso” has grown into a feel-good comedy phenomenon.

Deadline’s report indicates that Warner Bros. Television plans to contact more actors, including Juno Temple, who plays Keeley Jones. However, before officially greenlighting a fourth season, the studio needs to approve budgets and confirm schedules. If all goes well, production could begin in early 2025.

Speculation arises that these moves suggest Jason Sudeikis might already be on board for the new season. Originally, “Ted Lasso” was conceived as a three-season series. However, Apple TV+ never officially labeled the final episode of the third season as the series’ conclusion.

The third season ended with Ted moving back to Kansas, where he’s seen coaching his son’s soccer team, leaving the door open for future storylines.
