Five GOP-controlled states challenge Biden’s latest Title IX transgender policies

Five Republican-led states have sued the Biden administration over expanding Title IX to protect transgender students from sex-based discrimination. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed a lawsuit blocking the rules, calling them a mandate of “radical gender ideology.” Other lawsuits were filed in Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, and Idaho, arguing the rule redefines sex to include gender identity. Florida and Oklahoma officials rejected the rules, with Oklahoma instructing districts not to comply. The new rules protect LGBTQ students from discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity, contrary to Trump-era policies. Title IX may soon change to allow trans students to compete in sports aligned with their gender identities.
