Former MLB player Yuniesky Betancourt arrested for fraud in Miami

Last Friday, April 12, the Cuban former baseball player Yuniesky Betancourt, 42 years old, was the leading face of the news in the city of Miami, USA. The one born in Saint Clare, Cuba was arrested with three other individuals.

The former player faced, along with the others involved, accusations of planning a car accident in order to fraudulently collect car insurance.

According to the news portal America News, the companions involved were identified as Maura Pérez, Nancy Mercedes, and Abel Pérez, all accused of fraud against a company located in Chicago.

The report published by the county authorities Miami-Dade spoke about the charges filed, which include crimes related to false insurance claims, conspiracy to defraud, organizing an accident, and third-degree robbery.

It could be known that Yuniesky Betancourt was represented by the Miami-Dade Public Defender’s Office, according to the same police records. Furthermore, the document explained that the Cuban was released after paying a bail of $4,500 on Saturday.

Yuniesky Betancourt played in the Big Leagues for the last time in 2013 and then finished his career in Japan. The Cuban managed to amass a fortune of just over $15 million during his services.

The Antillean enjoyed nine seasons in Major League Baseball where he served as shortstop for Seattle Mariners, Kansas City Royals, and Milwaukee Brewers. However, his image took a different path after the unfortunate event.
