Former police officer facing charges of two homicides and a kidnapping shoots himself during pursuit, authorities report

A former Washington state police officer, Elias Huizar, shot himself while being pursued by Oregon police. The incident happened on Interstate 5 near Eugene when troopers saw him driving. Huizar was accused of killing his ex-wife, his girlfriend, and kidnapping a baby, who was safely rescued. He faced murder charges for the slaying of his ex-wife at a school. Prior to this incident, Huizar was under conditional freedom for previous rape accusations. An Amber Alert was issued for the kidnapped baby. Huizar had a history of being a police officer and resigned from the school district in Richland amidst disciplinary issues.
