Four extraordinary facts about the Plains tornado outbreak

After four days of severe thunderstorms and tornadoes in the American Great Plains, the onslaught is pausing. Over 140 tornadoes were reported in four days, with the majority occurring on Friday and Saturday in states like Nebraska, Iowa, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. At least three tornadoes reached EF3 or higher intensity, causing widespread damage. Semi trucks were blown or thrown by tornadic winds during the outbreak. Despite five tornado fatalities, the toll was relatively low due to good forecasts and advance warnings from the Weather Service. The storm system is expected to bring more severe weather to the region in the coming days.
