Gordon Ramsay and Tana’s Monthly Date Night with a Dress Code

Gordon Ramsay and his wife Tana may have six kids, but they sure know how to keep up with their date nights.

During an episode of the Happy Mum Happy Baby podcast, Tana, 50, shared how she and her Michelin-starred chef husband, 57, have a standing date night every month — and it involves a very specific dress code.

“In our relationship, having little kids again, our present to each other on our last anniversary was, we have to go to the theater once a month and we have to go out three times a month, and we’re not allowed to wear trainers,” she told host Giovanna Fletcher.

Gordon and Tana — who share Megan, 26, twins Holly and Jack, 24, Tilly, 22, Oscar, 5, and Jesse, 9 months — got used to wearing sneakers and jeans during the COVID-19 pandemic, she explained.

“So we kind of dress up in a nice dress and I’ll wear heels and he’ll wear a suit or a shirt and proper shoes,” she added. “Proper time together.”

It’s on these dedicated nights when they always have their “best chats,” Tana said.

“We go out to dinner and we talk about ourselves, we talk about each other, we talk about the kids, but it’s not just about the kids,” she said. “And I think being older parents, we just kind of feel we’re better at doing all of that.”

In a May interview with PEOPLE, Gordon echoed his wife’s statement.

“I think I’m a better dad this time round if I’m honest,” Ramsay admits to PEOPLE. “I know I’m better because I’ve got experience now and so I think we’ve done a good job so far with the first four.”

He also spoke about how he and Tana keep the spark alive while caring for six kids with a two-decade age gap.

“Date nights are crucial, whether it’s the cinema, whether it’s going out for a drive. We have a little time, but it’s quality, and so that is really important,” he said.

Those nights don’t have to fall on a weekend. In fact, they prefer weeknights.

“Everyone thinks Monday is the most boring day. It’s not,” he explained. “With a young family, we are grabbing moments, and that date night moment is crucial.”

After 27 years of marriage, the couple learned that small getaways are also one of their favorite ways to reconnect and spend quality time together.

“We were in Nottingham two weeks ago. We went to go see Tilly up at her university. And after walking the campus and seeing Tilly on her campus, we then went for dinner at a two-Michelin star [restaurant] up in Nottingham and then drove back the next morning,” Gordon added.
