Half of Arrests at Campus Protests in NYC are Non-Students: NPR

New York City officials reveal that nearly half of the 282 people arrested at pro-Palestinian protests at Columbia University and The City College of New York are not currently students at either school. Police were sent to Columbia University after school administrators claimed that the protesters were not affiliated with the university. Mayor Eric Adams mentioned concerns about one of the protester’s husbands being arrested for terrorism charges as the tipping point for police intervention. Critics have condemned the heavy police presence at these protests. City officials have not disclosed further identifying information about the arrested individuals and cite protesters’ refusal to cooperate with police as hindering the identification process.
