There’s more to Rocket wearing Star-Lord’s scarf following the Guardians of the Galaxy’s temporary disbandment in “Avengers: Endgame” than one might think. It signifies how far Rocket has come as a character. From his introduction in the first “Guardians of the Galaxy” film, Rocket was a loner, seldom showing his emotions. His trust was limited, primarily extending only to Groot. This wariness continued into the second film. However, by the time of “Endgame,” Rocket had soft significantly, wearing his heart on his sleeve and openly showing his care for his found family.

On Reddit, user u/fanchiuho pointed out this transformation through Rocket’s scarf, elaborating on the close bond between Rocket and Star-Lord developed over time. “Quill really is someone special to him. Quips a lot, can hang out with him on crazy things like skydiving, puts up with his personal problems, and was also the second closest to baby Groot. And he ended up picking up expressions from Quill and an interest in his music too,” they wrote. They also added that Rocket’s scarf-wearing habit goes deeper. Given Rocket’s heightened senses, he could likely still detect Star-Lord’s scent from the scarf, reinforcing the notion that he carries a piece of his close friend with him.

Fortunately, Rocket reunites with his fellow Guardians — except for Gamora — by the conclusion of “Avengers: Endgame.” This reunion gives Rocket the opportunity to demonstrate to their faces how much he loves and has always loved them.
