Harris Leads Trump by 2 Points in Battleground States: New Poll

Recent polling indicates that Vice President Kamala Harris is leading former President Donald Trump by an average of 2 percentage points across seven key battleground states as the race for the White House intensifies. This data was released on Thursday.

A survey conducted by Bloomberg News in collaboration with Morning Consult reveals that among registered voters in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, Harris holds an average advantage over Trump. The poll shows a narrower lead of just 1 point when it comes to likely voters in these states, reflecting a statistical tie.

The strongest support for Harris comes from Wisconsin, where she outpaces Trump by 8 points among registered voters. She also demonstrates considerable support in Nevada and Pennsylvania, where she leads Trump by 4 points in each state. In Arizona, both candidates are tied at 48 percent, while Harris leads by 2 points in both Georgia and North Carolina, as well as by 3 points in Michigan.

Harris’s lead in North Carolina is particularly significant as it marks a shift in a state that has not voted for a Democratic presidential candidate since Barack Obama in 2008. This change in dynamics has prompted the Cook Political Report, a nonpartisan group, to reclassify North Carolina’s presidential race from “lean Republican” to “toss up.”

Since taking the top spot on the Democratic ticket last month, Harris has made notable gains against Trump, posing a potential threat to the former president’s previously strong standing against President Biden during the earlier stages of the campaign.

This latest poll follows a previous survey by Fox News, which similarly found that Harris was gaining ground in key Sun Belt states, including Arizona, Georgia, and Nevada. In reaction, the Trump campaign has criticized Fox News for its polling methods.

Trump has largely downplayed the significance of Harris’s climb in the polls, maintaining confidence in his base.

The survey also suggested that the choice of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as Harris’s running mate has had a positive impact on swing-state voters for the Democratic ticket. Around 30 percent of these voters indicated that Walz’s selection made them more likely to vote for Harris. In contrast, only 23 percent expressed a similar sentiment regarding Senator JD Vance of Ohio after he was chosen as Trump’s running mate.

This Bloomberg News/Morning Consult poll surveyed a total of 4,962 registered voters across the seven swing states mentioned. The statistical margin of error of this poll is plus or minus 1 percentage point overall, with varying margins specific to certain states: 3 percentage points in Arizona, Georgia, and Pennsylvania; 4 percentage points in Michigan, North Carolina, and Wisconsin; and 5 percentage points in Nevada.
