Hayden Panettiere Joins Cast of ‘A Breed Apart,’ Cult Wes Craven Survival Film

EXCLUSIVE: Hayden Panettiere will star in A Breed Apart . Known for playing Claire Bennet in Heroes , Kirby Reed in the Scream franchise, and Juliette Barnes in Nashville , Panettiere’s role in the new film is being kept under wraps. The movie uses Wes Craven’s cult 2006 picture The Breed as its foundation.

In addition to Panettiere joining the cast, the film has rounded out its ensemble. Joey Bragg, Troy Gentile, Riele Downs, and Page Kennedy will all appear. They join previously announced cast members Virginia Gardner and Grace Caroline Currey, who starred together in the Netflix movie Fall .

Billed as a reimagining of Wes Craven-produced and Nicholas Mastandrea-directed The Breed , the upcoming movie is more accurately described as a sequel. The story takes place after the events of the first film. Initially, the new film had the same name, but it has since been changed to A Breed Apart .

The plot of A Breed Apart centers on a pack of dogs that escape during the filming of a fictional The Breed 2 movie on a remote island. Years later, a group of YouTubers is drawn to the island to find the dogs, hoping their adventure will go viral. The brainchild of influencer Vince Venture, played by Bragg, the project soon turns into a survival challenge. Each influencer must use their unique skills to stay alive.

Brothers Griff and Nathan Furst are directing and producing the movie under their Curmudgeon Films banner. Daro Film Distribution is co-producing and financing. The film is set for a 2025 release.
