Conor Kennedy, the 30-year-old son of presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., is getting married to Brazilian pop singer Giulia Bourguignon Marinho, known professionally as Giulia Be. The couple announced the news on Monday, sharing photos of their engagement celebration on Instagram. “Easiest yes of all time,” Giulia captioned the post, which included a closeup shot of her diamond ring from Tiffany & Co.

Giulia’s engagement ring features a pear-shaped diamond reminiscent of a teardrop, which symbolizes “tears of joy,” according to Tiffany & Co.’s website, where a similar ring is available for $24,900.

Kennedy garnered media attention with his past relationship with Taylor Swift in 2012. He leads a dynamic life involving music, activism, and recently, military service. In 2022, Kennedy joined Ukraine’s International Legion of Foreign Fighters to combat the Russian invasion.

Born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Giulia met Kennedy in Los Angeles, where they reside. The couple dated for two years before getting engaged. The singer’s background is akin to Kennedy’s, as both come from politically active families.

Giulia is the daughter of businessman and politician Paulo Marinho, who has been engaged in political campaigns since 1986. Marinho was also friends with Aristotle Onassis, who married former U.S. first lady Jacqueline Kennedy, Conor Kennedy’s great aunt through her first marriage to John F. Kennedy.

Marinho was once a close ally to former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro. In 2022, the Marinho family distanced themselves from Bolsonaro, campaigning for his opponent and current President of Brazil Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Connor Kennedy joined the Marinho family during the campaign, posing for pictures with Lula. Giulia’s brother, André Marinho, works as a political commentator for a conservative radio station in Brazil.

Since 2018, Giulia has been investing in her music career after signing a deal with Warner Music. She has released songs in English, including “With You” and “Too Bad,” and scored her first hit in 2020 with “Menina Solta.” Giulia also starred in Netflix’s “Beyond the Universe,” released in 2022.

During her pop star journey, Giulia has made notable red carpet appearances, with the most recent being at the “Damsel” world premiere on March 1 in New York City, where she wore a sheer jumpsuit from Cucculelli Shaheen’s fall 2023 collection, paired with a dramatic leather coat.

For the Season 12 premiere of HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” Giulia joined Kennedy’s family in a red David Koma chain-detailed midi dress. Kennedy’s stepmother, Cheryl Hines, had a leading role in the comedy series.

In November 2023, she presented at the 24th Annual Latin Grammy Awards in a Fendi suit. She has also worn looks by Gucci and Burberry and sat front row at Rabanne’s spring 2024 show.

In 2021, Giulia starred in a musical campaign for Riachuelo, the fast-fashion retailer that recently made headlines with its uniform designs for Team Brazil during the Paris Olympics.

The post announcing their engagement has garnered the support of many celebrities, including Brazilian model Izabel Goulart and DJ Diplo. Hines also celebrated the news in the comments section. “Welcome to the family Giulia!!!!! We love you so much!” the actress wrote.
