High school teacher in Baltimore arrested for creating deepfake racist audio of principal

A Maryland high school teacher, Dazhon Darien, has been arrested for using AI to create a deepfake recording of his principal, Eric Eiswert, making racist comments. Mr. Eiswert was placed on leave and faced death threats due to the fake clip. Mr. Darien faces charges including stalking and retaliation against a witness. Police believe he created the recording in retaliation for an investigation into mishandling of district funds. Mr. Darien used school district internet to search for AI tools and sent the fake recording to himself and others. He was arrested at the airport with a firearm and an open arrest warrant, facing possible termination.
