Hillel and Chabad come together to sing on Foster Lawn

About 50 Northwestern Hillel and NU Chabad members gathered to sing Hebrew songs for peace while pro-Palestine protesters camped on Deering Meadow. Weinberg junior Jess Moskowitz supported a ceasefire but criticized NU Divestment Coalition’s mission. The event lasted 30 minutes despite heavy rain. Pro-Palestinian protesters called for the University to divest from Israel, prompting concerns of escalating antisemitic rhetoric. Similar encampments and clashes with police have occurred on other campuses. Michael Simon of Northwestern Hillel welcomed everyone to the event as a chance to come together. He emphasized the importance of expressing opinions in a safe environment.
