Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie’s Absence on Today Show Finally Explained

Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie have both been absent from the Today Show all week, with Craig Melvin and Sheinelle Jones filling in for the hosts.

The reason for their absence was finally shared on Thursday’s episode when Craig informed viewers at the start of the show that Hoda and Savannah took time off to spend with their families.

Both Hoda and Savannah, who have young children, are making the most of the school summer holidays.

While Hoda has remained mostly inactive on social media, Savannah offered a peek into her family vacation earlier this week. She posted a series of pictures of her family enjoying their resort stay, captioning it with, “Holding onto the last of summer.”

She also included an “Out of office” sticker in the post. Earlier in the month, Savannah took a week off to coordinate with her daughter Vale’s tenth birthday.

Savannah shared a heartfelt tribute to Vale on social media, featuring a collection of pictures from the past year and writing, “ten years of this magical girl – my whole heart and soul. Happy birthday dearest Vale!”

Last week, Savannah was away from the Today Show studios, reporting on the National Democratic Convention in Chicago for NBC. The journalist is frequently on the move, flying overnight to cover events both in the United States and worldwide.

Meanwhile, Hoda recently celebrated her 60th birthday with her daughters, Haley and Hope, in New York City. She took some time off for the occasion, enjoying a family party at her home in Upstate New York. Despite her sister Hala’s absence due to illness, Hoda shared pictures from the event on social media, expressing her gratitude for the birthday wishes and noting, “My party was perfect! —Minus my sis being home sick we missed you Hala.”

Hoda and Savannah have been co-hosting Today together since 2018 and share a strong friendship outside of work. In an interview, Savannah expressed her gratitude for their partnership, saying, “We feel grateful every single day, I know we feel grateful for this partnership and getting to come and do a job that is literally fun and to get to do it with a good friend who you trust so much and to just hold hands and get to do this together every morning – I never get over that. I still can’t believe it came true.”
