Hugo Weaving didn’t find much enjoyment portraying Elrond

Years may pass, but no other franchise will be able to match the fury and madness that The Lord of the Rings generated at the time. The saga created by JRR Tolkien and brought to the screen by Peter Jackson marked a milestone in fantasy cinema. Many actors still fondly remember his participation in the franchise, although there is one who is not as enthusiastic about his role in it.

We talk about Hugo Weaving, who played Elrond in The Lord of the Rings trilogy and in The Hobbit. During an interview with the British media The Guardian, Weaving briefly but forcefully expressed his feelings about his role in these films.

“It wasn’t the most rewarding character to play, honestly,” Weaving said. “Elrond looked like a coat rack.” Although the character is one of the most important in the entire saga, his presence on screen was relatively brief, concentrating mainly in the first minutes of The Fellowship of the Ring.

Despite this, Weaving feels proud to have been part of this saga and to have given life to Elrond, an elven leader who commanded his army in the war against Sauron and who contributed to the defeat of the Dark Lord alongside Isildur. Although the latter fell to the temptation of the ring, Elrond’s conciliatory role in the first film helped form a community that would embark on an unforgettable journey.
