IDF Strikes Lebanon; Hezbollah Claims Launch of 320 Katyusha Rockets at Israel

In the early hours of August 25, Israel initiated what it described as “pre-emptive” airstrikes against Hezbollah targets in Lebanon. This action followed intelligence that suggested Hezbollah was planning an attack against Israeli territory.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) asserted that the identified threats from Hezbollah included preparations to launch missiles and rockets towards Israel. Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari stated that the IDF’s strikes were a necessary self-defense measure aimed at dismantling these dangers, emphasizing the need to protect Israeli civilians from potential attacks.

Following the Israeli strikes, Hezbollah was reported to have fired over 150 projectiles into Israeli territory. In response, the IDF claimed that around 100 aircraft were deployed to strike and destroy numerous Hezbollah rocket launchers situated in Lebanon.

Hezbollah characterized this military operation as the “first phase” of a broader assault against Israel, purportedly triggered by the death of Fuad Shukr, a senior commander within the group. According to Lebanese media, Hezbollah claimed responsibility for firing 320 Katyusha rockets at 11 military sites across Israel, asserting that its operations for the day were successfully completed.

In light of the escalating tensions, Israel’s Defense Minister, Yoav Gallant, announced a nationwide state of emergency lasting 48 hours. This declaration reflects the growing fears of a potential all-out war between Israel and Hezbollah, a concern that has intensified in recent months.

Gallant expressed Israel’s intention to avert any “regional escalation,” indicating that the country would coordinate with the United States to ensure both its defense and broader regional stability amidst the conflict.
