Illinois Museum Hosting Evel Knievel Tribute Tour

Before extreme sports and Jackass, Evel Knievel was the ultimate stunt performer.

During my childhood, sports coverage was limited. Major networks were few, and dedicated sports channels like ESPN weren’t around. The best sports programming available was ABC’s Wide World of Sports, which aired on Saturday afternoons, showcasing less mainstream sports. One memorable feature was the Harlem Globetrotters.

However, my favorite episodes were those featuring Evel Knievel, who performed stunning motorcycle jumps. I was a massive fan and owned many of his toys. The stunts he performed were extremely dangerous, resulting in several serious crashes and injuries.

One memorable event had Knievel planning to jump over a pool full of sharks. Those nights, my parents insisted I eat green beans, which I despised. I spent a long time at the table reluctant to eat, eager not to miss the stunt. Unfortunately, Knievel got injured during practice, and the jump was never completed. To this day, I have an aversion to green beans because of that.

Now, there’s an Evel Knievel Tribute Tour, a traveling exhibit displaying his stunt vehicles, costumes, collectibles, and more. For fans, it’s an essential event. I’m personally trying to find a spot in my schedule to attend.

This special tour will be visiting the Volo Auto Museum in Volo, Illinois. However, it’s a limited-time exhibit, available only from August 23rd to 25th. If you’re planning to see it, don’t delay.
