Indiana State Police Superintendent Doug Carter addresses IU protest policy.

Indiana State Police Superintendent Doug Carter stated that state troopers and IUPD officers were instructed to give verbal warnings to those who did not remove structures on IU Bloomington’s campus. Carter expressed support for free speech but emphasized the need to enforce property ownership and trespassing laws. The university updated its policy regarding structures at Dunn Meadow, requiring prior approval. Despite 56 arrests, Bloomington Mayor Kerry Thompson stated that the Bloomington Police Department would not intervene. Carter indicated that state troopers will continue working with the university and protestors as the encampment persists. IU declined to comment on the situation.
