Investigation opened into death of Black man in police custody following release of bodycam footage showing him handcuffed and facedown on bar floor

An Ohio man handcuffed and left on the floor of a social club by police officers died in custody, leading to the officers being placed on administrative leave. The man, identified as Frank Tyson, resisted being handcuffed, saying “they’re trying to kill me.” Despite his pleas of not being able to breathe, officers disregarded his distress. Tyson, who had recently been released from prison, became unresponsive and died at a hospital. The incident is under investigation by the Ohio Attorney General’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation to determine if charges are warranted. Police are reminded of the danger of positional asphyxia due to the positioning of individuals after being handcuffed.
