A video depicting the heartbreaking fate of Jonathan Adam Lecompte, 38, who was fatally shot by a driver while attempting to prevent an alleged car theft, has recently gone viral.
According to reports from the Fayetteville Observer, the footage captured the moment Lecompte confronted Ricky Alex Driggers, 28, in an effort to stop him from stealing a 4×4 vehicle on West Fifth Street in Lumberton, North Carolina.
“Don’t get on the damn truck, you fool!” Lecompte could be heard shouting before firing at Driggers, as shown in the viral clip released by the American tabloid portal, TMZ.
In the video, Driggers can be seen reversing the white truck while Lecompte warns bystanders to “Get out of the way, he’s going to run into us!”. Tragically, the situation took a turn for the worse when the truck accelerated and struck Lecompte in front of shocked onlookers.
This incident led to a police pursuit that concluded with the suspect crashing the vehicle on Selma Road near NC 41, according to local media sources.
Law enforcement has charged the alleged car thief with first-degree murder, attempted common law robbery, theft of a motor vehicle, and felony fleeing and eluding. The suspect is currently in custody at the Robeson County Jail without bond.
