ITV News Presenter Sacha Williams Resigns After 21 Years

ITV newsreader Sascha Williams has decided to leave the channel after dedicating 21 years to the network.

Williams announced her departure through her social media pages, where she shared a photo collage showcasing various moments from her two-decade journey at ITV News.

“After 21 years (and by the look of it, about as many hairstyles), it’s time to bid farewell to ITV,” she wrote. “It’s been one heck of a ride, working with some of the absolute best in the business.”

She concluded her message by expressing how much she would miss her colleagues but humorously adding that she wouldn’t miss her 4 am alarms for the 6.25 am news bulletins.

Following her announcement, Williams’s colleagues have lauded her contributions. Jonathan Wills, a former ITV News colleague, referred to Williams as “a star.” “Such a pleasure to share the @itvanglia sofa with you, Sascha… enjoy the deserved break from the alarm… and huge best wishes coming to you from the islands!”

Matt Brindley, the managing editor of ITV News, also extended his best wishes, writing, “Best of luck @Sascha_Williams – total pro and great colleague.”

David Whiteley, her fellow presenter, echoed these sentiments, calling her “one of the very best in the business.”

Williams began her career with the channel in 2003 as a production journalist for ITV Anglia. Her dedication and skill saw her climbing the ranks, and by 2013, she became an ITV News presenter. Before this, she had appeared on Good Morning Britain and ITV News London.

Earlier this year, ITV News grabbed headlines when presenter Rageh Omaar fell ill during a live broadcast of News at Ten.

In April 2024, Omar, 56, appeared to struggle with reading the autocue during the ITV1 news programme. After the broadcast, ITV assured viewers that the newscaster was receiving medical care.

The next day, a spokesperson for the network provided an update, stating that Omaar was recovering at home after receiving hospital treatment.

“We appreciate viewers of last night’s News At Ten were concerned about Rageh Omaar’s wellbeing,” the statement read. “Following medical treatment at the hospital, he is now recovering at home with his family.

“We are wishing Rageh a speedy recovery and look forward to him being back on screen when he feels ready.”

Omar issued a statement thanking everyone involved for their support during the challenging time. “I would like to thank everyone for their kindness and good wishes, especially all the medical staff, all my wonderful colleagues at ITV News, and our viewers who expressed concern,” he said. “At the time, I was determined to finish presenting the programme. I am grateful for all the support I’ve been given.”
