James Wan’s Upcoming Horror Series on Peacock: Everything We Know So Far

James Wan’s prolific imagination, known for “The Conjuring,” “Insidious,” and “Saw” franchises, is now venturing into a new avenue with the series “Teacup.” This Peacock series has significant backing from producers like Wan/Atomic Monster, Ian McCullough, Michael Clear, and E.L. Katz, who have previously worked on projects like “The Haunting of Bly Manor,” “M3GAN,” and “Archive 81.”

Yvonne Strahovski, recognized from “Handmaid’s Tale” and “Dexter,” alongside Scott Speedman, known for his unsettling role in 2008’s “The Strangers,” headline the cast. Speedman recently shared at San Diego Comic-Con that the eerie vibes he experienced while working on “Teacup” were reminiscent of those from “The Strangers.”

The series is adapted from Robert McCammon’s Bram Stoker Award-nominated and “New York Times” bestselling novel “Stinger,” and the story unfolds over 48 hours. According to a report from “Hollywood Reporter,” the book’s narrative has been streamlined to concentrate on a few characters, including a family navigating through a series of stressful situations.

“Teacup” follows a diverse group of individuals in rural Georgia who must band together in the face of a mysterious threat to survive. Co-executive producer Ian McCullough emphasized the story’s minimalism, noting that the focus will be on the characters and their predicament without unnecessary filler. Wan described the series as both “meditative” and “so big and scary.”

The series promises its share of gore. Yvonne Strahovski mentioned a particular prosthetic that made her feel physically ill, underscoring the show’s intense nature. She also admitted she expected a less emotionally challenging role compared to “Handmaid’s Tale,” but found “Teacup” to be equally demanding. However, this series is significantly shorter, suggesting a lighter project might be in her future for some much-needed respite.

“Teacup” features a notable cast including Yvonne Strahovski (“Handmaid’s Tale,” “Dexter”), Scott Speedman (“The Strangers,” “Grey’s Anatomy”), Chaske Spencer (“The English”), Kathy Baker, and Boris McGiver.

The series is scheduled to premiere on October 10, with the initial two episodes followed by two episodes each week until the finale on October 31.

Several trailers have been released, teasing the series. One shows ominous teacup patterns giving away little, while another delves into ominous events at a farmhouse, setting the tone for what’s to come.
