Janet Jackson Reveals Cousins: Stevie Wonder, Tracy Chapman, Samuel L. Jackson

It’s widely known that Janet Jackson hails from a renowned family, but the extent of its fame might surprise many. In a recent interview with Scott Mills on BBC Radio 2, Janet Jackson disclosed that Stevie Wonder, Tracy Chapman, and Samuel L. Jackson are her cousins.

Growing up, Janet Jackson was famously surrounded by her brothers Michael, Randy, Brandon, Tito, Jermaine, and the rest of the Jackson family. However, she revealed that Stevie Wonder is also part of her extended family, being her third cousin once removed through her mother Katherine’s side. Although she mentioned Tracy Chapman and Samuel L. Jackson are related through her mother’s side as well, the exact nature of their familial connections remains unknown.

Janet Jackson and Stevie Wonder share midwestern roots. While Jackson notes that many fans may not be aware of her connection to Wonder, both artists were integral parts of the Motown boom during the late ’60s and early ’70s. Their bond was further highlighted when Jackson presented Stevie Wonder with a Hall of Fame Award at the NAACP Image Awards in 2008.

Janet Jackson is currently touring Europe on the “Together Again Tour,” which will run through October. She recently completed the North American leg of the tour, wrapping up the summer performances late last month.
