The show must go on. Last night, just a couple of hours before the scheduled performance, Morgan Wallen announced that he had to cancel his concert at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa due to illness. As part of his One Night At A Time tour, the concert has been rescheduled for October 4. Furthermore, Morgan also had to postpone next weekend’s shows at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, now set for October 18 and 19.

Fans in Tampa, albeit disappointed, found some solace when Jelly Roll stepped in to offer a special performance. The artist took to social media to inform fans that he was working on an alternative for those already in town and ready for the show. Not long after, he announced that he would be performing at the local country nightclub, the Dallas Bull, the next evening—free of charge for anyone with tickets to the canceled concert.

During his set, Jelly Roll passionately defended Morgan Wallen, affirming that his friend was indeed very ill. He shared how surprised he was that Morgan was able to perform the prior night, emphasizing that he had advised Morgan against it and was relieved that he decided to rest:

“I wanted to say this early in the show, because I want to make no mistake about this. Morgan Wallen is a dear friend of mine, who is so sick I could not believe he did that show last night. This isn’t no bullsh*t. I’m gonna stand up for my friend when it’s right to stand up for my friend. My friend is sick, y’all. My friend is sick as sh*t, and you post that sh*t on the internet. Cause my dude is sick as f*cking sh*t y’all. I told him don’t do the show last night, I told him. I’m glad he took the day to rest his body. I was heartbroken, I didn’t want to leave without singing some music for some motherf*****s that came out for this.”

With rumors swirling around about the true reasons for Morgan’s cancellation, Jelly Roll’s defense provided some clarity and likely reassured many fans. While it’s always disappointing when a concert is postponed, attendees at least got to enjoy a performance, even if it wasn’t from Morgan Wallen.
