Jennifer Lopez was recently seen in New York City on the official date of her and Ben Affleck’s separation. The singer, who has filed for divorce from the actor, put on a serious face as she left an apartment building on April 26.

Lopez wore a beige sweater, oversized jeans, and platform shoes. She accessorized her outfit with gold hoops, sunglasses, and a Hermès Birkin bag. Despite the separation, she was still seen wearing her massive 8.5-carat green diamond ring. Her hair was slicked back into a bun, and she appeared to be makeup-free. As she walked on the sidewalk, she maintained a somber expression.

The official date of separation came after months of speculation. The date is especially significant as it marks the second anniversary of their extravagant Georgia wedding ceremony. Affleck was photographed nearly a week later on May 2, taking his 12-year-old son, Samuel, to school in Los Angeles. He appeared downcast, wearing a gray-and-white sweater paired with jeans and Nike sneakers.

Lopez’s divorce filing noted April 26 as the date of their split. TMZ first reported the news, and Page Six confirmed it. The couple reportedly did not sign a prenuptial agreement. However, Lopez requested that spousal support be waived for both herself and Affleck.

In the light of their divorce, it was reported that their children are ready to move on. “His kids are taking it fine as are hers,” a source close to the situation disclosed. Affleck shares three children—Violet, 18, Seraphina, 15, and Samuel, 12—with his ex-wife Jennifer Garner. Lopez is a mother to twins Max and Emme, 16, whom she shares with ex-husband Marc Anthony.

Breakup rumors started swirling back in May when Affleck didn’t accompany Lopez to the Met Gala, where she was serving as a co-chair. Following this, Affleck was seen ditching his wedding ring and moving out of their marital home in Beverly Hills, California. Despite the separation, the pair attended Seraphina’s school play together on May 17 and a movie event days later.

The “Selena” actress also attended Violet’s high school graduation party on May 30 and Samuel’s basketball game on June 2. However, the former couple awkwardly avoided kissing each other on the lips when they reunited for the sporting event.

Throughout the summer, Lopez and Affleck noticeably spent most of the time apart. Lopez traveled to Italy and the Hamptons, while Affleck stayed behind in Los Angeles. More rumors about a split surfaced in July when Affleck missed Lopez’s 55th birthday celebrations, and they spent their second wedding anniversary apart.

Sources had previously told Page Six that Affleck had “come to his senses” about their marriage, which some described as a “fever dream.” The couple was previously engaged in 2004 before reconciling in 2021. They eloped a year later in Las Vegas.

Despite their attempts to present a united front, including attending family events together, it appears that the couple is moving towards making their separation official.
