Jessica Biel Returns to Work on New Series in NYC Amid Justin’s DWI Scandal

Jessica Biel has resumed work as her husband, Justin Timberlake, finds himself embroiled in a DWI arrest scandal. On Tuesday, the actress, 42, was seen in New York City filming her new series, “The Better Sister.” Jessica was without her usual entourage and appeared tense, carrying her iPhone. She wore a blue-striped sweater maxi dress paired with white slip-on shoes, accessorizing with a large black purse and a turquoise reusable water bottle.

“The Better Sister,” a new thriller series slated for Amazon Prime Video, stars Biel alongside Elizabeth Banks, known for her recent role in “Cocaine Bear.” Both actresses are also executive producers of the series. According to Variety, the series revolves around Biel’s character, Chloe, who navigates life with her lawyer husband, Adam, and teenage son, Ethan. Her estranged sister, Nicky, played by Banks, struggles to make ends meet while trying to stay sober. The plot takes a dark turn when Adam is murdered, revealing long-hidden family secrets.

Jessica, seemingly in full hair and makeup, sported a natural glam look with her blonde bob styled pin straight. When it was time to shoot, she swapped her slip-on shoes for tall, strappy heels. Biel was seen filming a scene outdoors next to a gray vehicle. Between takes, a crew member held an umbrella over her to shield her from the sun. Biel, ever the professional, charmed the cameras while surrounded by a full crew.

The New York City shoot for “The Better Sister” began in June. Jessica recently took a break from filming to support her husband, Justin Timberlake, during the U.K. leg of his “Forget Tomorrow World Tour.” Photos surfaced showing the couple enjoying a low-key lunch in Manchester on Thursday, August 8. Despite appearing tense during lunch, the same day Timberlake shared a video of a joyful Biel, celebrating his sold-out show.

Timberlake embarked on his European tour late last month, and he is scheduled to perform at the Co-Op Live in Manchester, followed by two dates in London next week.

The scandal surrounding Timberlake came to light nearly two months ago, on June 18, when he was arrested and charged with DWI after running a stop sign while driving his BMW X7 in Sag Harbor. DailyMail.com reported that Timberlake reeked of alcohol and failed to follow police instructions correctly. He also refused to take a breathalyzer test. Though his attorney claimed he was not intoxicated at the time of his arrest, new police documents detail Timberlake’s failure in a series of sobriety tests and his refusal of a chemical test.

The arrest report indicates that Timberlake was pulled over by 24-year-old rookie officer Michael Arkinson after the singer allegedly blew a stop sign and swerved in his lane. Timberlake refused the breath test multiple times and showed signs of intoxication, including swaying on his feet and an inability to maintain balance. Arrested shortly after midnight, Timberlake was alone in the car and later noted, “I had one martini and I followed my friends home.”

During the sobriety tests, Timberlake had trouble with the walk-and-turn test, swaying significantly and failing to keep his balance during the one-leg stand test. Arkinson reported this behavior in detail.

After being handcuffed and transported to the police station, Timberlake again refused a chemical test, a riskier refusal because results from this test are admissible in court. By 1:26 AM, Timberlake had been read his Miranda rights and declined to speak without his attorney present.

On a virtual court appearance last Friday, Judge Carl Irace suspended Timberlake’s driving privileges in New York. Appearing via video from Antwerp, Belgium, where he performed on Saturday, Timberlake again pleaded not guilty to the DWI charge, maintaining his stance.

Attorney Edward Burke Jr.’s efforts to dismiss the case last week were denied, with Judge Irace re-arraigning Timberlake under revised paperwork filed by prosecutors. Burke withdrew his motion to dismiss the case and was admonished by the judge for comments made post-hearing, aiming to influence the case before its commencement.

During the virtual hearing, Timberlake seemed stony-faced, speaking only to enter his plea. Judge Irace warned that Timberlake might need to appear in person for future court proceedings. Another hearing is set for next Friday, August 9, which Timberlake will not be required to attend due to his ongoing European tour. Timberlake will return to the US for a New Jersey show on September 13.
